Welcome
Heather McCartney is a psychotherapist based in Charlton Kings, Cheltenham and in Kings Heath, Birmingham.
Heather offers Counselling and Psychotherapy to individuals and couples
‘I work with people who are at an impasse emotionally in some aspect of their lives, in how they feel about themselves, in a relationship, at work, or in their families.’
Emotional difficulties can result in symptoms such as depression, anxiety or obsessions — symptoms that let us know that something in our life is out of balance, either in the way we perceive a problem, or a situation, that requires change.
People also come into therapy to develop greater self-acceptance, find deeper meaning, or feel a greater sense of authenticity about their lives
Analytical Psychotherapy stresses the importance of understanding:
- that each individual is unique,
- that there are factors outside of a person’s awareness (unconscious thoughts, feelings and experiences) which influence his or her thoughts and actions,
- that the past shapes the present
- that human beings are always engaged in the process of development throughout their lives
A comment from someone who who has experienced analytical psychotherapy:
“When people experience traumatic events as children, they often have difficulty connecting the threads of their life as adults. It’s as if their own timeline is broken, their very continuity. Simply put, analytical psychotherapy helped me see my whole self and live more parts of my self. Importantly, by healing that estrangement from myself and by helping me to come to terms with my powers and limitations, psychotherapy helped me take more responsibility for my life which has had significant benefits in both my professional work and my personal relationships”
